Getting your ring size right is one of the most important steps before purchasing a ring — whether it is an engagement ring, a platinum wedding band, or an everyday jewellery piece. This guide covers everything you need: Malaysia's HK ring sizing standard explained, three accurate at-home measurement methods, a complete ring size chart with US conversion, and expert tips for special occasions including surprise proposals.
In Malaysia, most jewellers — including Diamond & Platinum — use the Hong Kong (HK) ring size system, the recognised standard across Southeast Asia. Each HK number corresponds to the ring's inner circumference in millimetres: the higher the number, the larger the ring. If you have shopped internationally, the US size system uses a different scale based on inner diameter — the chart below includes both columns for easy cross-reference.
Quick reference: HK 8 = US 3.75 | HK 15 = US 7 | HK 20 = US 9 | HK 22 = US 10

Diamond & Platinum offers a complimentary ring sizer delivered free to your door across Malaysia. Loop it around your finger, adjust until it sits snugly at the base, and read your HK size directly from the scale.
The table below is the official Diamond & Platinum ring size chart, covering HK sizes 5 through 30. Use the Circumference (mm) column if you measured using the paper strip method. Use the Diameter (mm) column if you measured the inside of an existing ring. The US & Canada column allows you to convert from an international size you may already know.

Chart legend: Circumference = measurement around inside of ring. Diameter = straight-line across inside. Between two sizes? Always choose the larger.
An engagement ring is one of the most significant and personal pieces of jewellery a person will ever wear. The most accurate approach is to visit a Diamond & Platinum boutique together for a professional fitting, where our consultants can advise on ring style, diamond selection, band width, and the ideal size for your finger shape. Our Diamond 4Cs Page is also an excellent starting point for understanding the 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity, and carat — before your visit or purchase.
If a surprise proposal is planned, the following methods are the most reliable:
Borrow an existing ring worn on their left ring finger, measure the inner diameter (Method 02), and match it to the chart.
Ask a trusted friend or family member to find out the size naturally.
Use the average as a starting point — HK 12 is most common for Malaysian women. Diamond & Platinum offers one-time free resizing up to two sizes, so perfection is not required at purchase.
Order slightly larger — a ring that is marginally too big is quicker and easier to resize than one that is too small.
Wedding Bands
Wide wedding bands fit more snugly — consider sizing up by half a size. Visit a Diamond & Platinum boutique for a paired fitting if selecting bands together.
Most women wear between HK 10 and HK 15, with HK 12 (US 5.5) the most common. Most men wear between HK 16 and HK 21, with HK 18 (US 8.25) the most typical. Always measure accurately rather than relying on averages.
Use the paper strip method (Method 01): wrap a 1 cm wide strip around your finger, mark the overlap, and measure the length in millimetres. Match to the Circumference column in the ring size chart. Measure three times and average the readings, in the afternoon at room temperature.
HK sizes correspond to the ring's inner circumference in millimetres (e.g. HK 13 = 52.1 mm). US sizes use a different scale based on inner diameter. HK 13 = US 6; HK 22 = US 10. The D&P chart includes both columns for easy conversion.
Always choose the larger size. A ring that is slightly loose is more comfortable and easier to resize than one that is too tight. For wide bands (5 mm+), size up by half a size as these fit more snugly regardless.
Wide bands (5 mm and above) cover more surface area and fit more snugly than narrow rings of the same nominal size — often feeling half a size smaller. Always size up by half a size when purchasing a wide wedding band for all-day comfort.
